Oil Flowing Material Balance (FMB)

Tool
Description

Implements the flowing material balance (FMB) method for dead oil reservoirs using production rates and flowing pressure data. Eliminates the requirement for well shut-ins by operating under pseudo-steady state assumptions.

Applies material balance time to replace conventional production time. Integrates flow equations with depletion behavior to estimate original oil in place (OOIP) across constant and variable rate conditions.

How it works

  • Input production rates, flowing pressures, and fluid properties
  • Compute material balance time from rate-normalized production history
  • Apply pseudo-steady state flow equation formulation
  • Combine with depletion equation for dead oil systems
  • Estimate OOIP from linearized FMB relationship

Key Features

  • Flowing data-based OOIP estimation
  • Material balance time implementation
  • Handles variable production rates
  • Pseudo-steady state flow modeling
  • Linear diagnostic plotting for validation

What you get

  • FMB calculation model
  • Material balance time computation module
  • OOIP estimation workflow
  • Input dataset template
  • Output diagnostic plots

Notes

  • Based on Mattar and Anderson (2005) formulation
  • Incorporates material balance time concept from Palacio and Blasingame (1993)
