In the CrowdField blog, you’ll find inspiring case studies of collaborations with talented young engineers, like the Streamlit Relative Permeability App by Shubham and the Z-Factor App by Omar. You can explore their stories here:
In this blog post, I’m excited to share another success story—our collaboration with Seenivasan B, a young petroleum engineer who developed a cutting-edge Streamlit app for Gas P/Z Material Balance Analyses.
A while back, I noticed Seenivasan B popping up in my feed, sharing some seriously cool content. I thought, “This guy’s got something,” so I reached out to see if he’d be up for working together.
His enthusiasm and drive were immediately evident:
Having already built a small Streamlit app, Seenivasan was eager to tackle a new challenge. This led to our first project together: the Dry Gas Depletion P/Z Straight-Line App.
Our goal was to create an intuitive, Python-powered app that simplifies dry gas material balance calculations. The app features:
This tool is designed to empower reservoir engineers by saving time and enhancing analysis accuracy.
What started as a one-week estimate turned into a transformative 50-day journey of learning and problem-solving for Seenivasan.
Before diving into coding, he approached the problem methodically—first solving it manually using pen-and-paper calculations.
This helped him grasp key concepts like gas material balance equations and the Hall-Yarborough correlation for Z-factor calculations.
The initial app version was functional but basic. Through iterative feedback loops, Seenivasan refined the code structure, optimized performance, and improved usability. One major breakthrough was the addition of a dual-line feature, enabling side-by-side comparison of depletion scenarios—a challenging yet rewarding enhancement.
By the end of the project, Seenivasan had reduced the codebase by 200 lines while boosting efficiency and readability.
This collaboration exemplifies CrowdField’s core values—mentorship, innovation, and community-driven growth. Here’s what Seenivasan achieved:
“Working on this project was a transformative experience. What I thought would take a week turned into an intense 50-day journey of learning and growth. Alan’s guidance was invaluable—he pointed me in the right direction without giving me direct answers. Expanding the app to include dual-line comparisons was particularly challenging but taught me an important lesson: there’s always room for improvement. By the end, I not only had a working app but also a deeper understanding of gas material balance and Python optimization. This project wasn’t just about coding; it was about growing as an engineer, and I am grateful for the opportunity.”

Additionally, you can find both local and cloud versions in Seenivasan’s GitHub repository:
This case study underscores the power of collaboration, continuous learning, and proactive engagement. By taking ownership of this project and refining it through multiple iterations, Seenivasan not only delivered a high-value tool but also accelerated his professional development.
We at CrowdField are proud to support such talented individuals in their journey toward innovation and growth. We can’t wait to see where this experience takes Seenivasan next!
